Keeping your key safe
Your key and its recovery phrase are essential: protect them.
Your private key (and the 24-word recovery phrase protecting it) are the only way to decrypt the reports you are responsible for. Nobody, not even the platform operator, can recover them for you.
- Store the key block and the 24 words in safe, separate places.
- Never share the key or the 24 words.
- If you lose both, data encrypted with that key cannot be recovered.
The passkey is a convenience for a single device, not a backup: if you change computer, clear the browser data or lose the passkey, you will need the 24 words again. If a device is no longer yours, use “Forget the passkey on this device” before handing it over.
